somatic counseling

Somatic psychology is the study of the mysterious totality of the body, mind, and heart. Examining the whole person and the relationship between our physical matter and our energy, the interaction of our body structures with our thoughts and behaviors. Somatic exploration may include explorative and symbolic movement, mindfulness, sound, touch, mirroring, and breath.

how i work

Laura’s approach is trauma-informed, experiential, and body -centered (somatic). Her work integrates somatic psychology principals with neuroscience and yogic philosophy to support you to move towards wholeness. Laura’s authentic, nonjudgmental, and compassionate presence creates a safe space for honest self exploration and reflection to promote healing and change. Laura meets you where you are. Each person is unique and we all heal and learn in different ways. All sessions are created for you to feel empowered and equip with holistic tools that work for you and your unique healing journey.

who i help

This work is for anyone seeking an alternative or complementary approach for mental health support and wellness. For anyone seeking support for change and deep self discovery. Laura specializes in the management of stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia, and trauma residue. Her Buddhist psychology education and her decade + years of studying yoga offers clients a unique environment to explore spiritual emergence and development. Her passion is to help people to live a more embodied, conscious, loving, and meaningful life.

what to expect

Ultimately, it’s about you and the unique needs of your body, mind, and soul. The ability to feel your body from the inside out, interoceptive awareness, diminishes as we age and can be cut off following a traumatic experience. We focus on increasing awareness of your inner visceral sensations, how your nervous system interacts with the world around you, and explore a wide variety of modalities for trying on new ways of being. Neuroscience has shown the deeper our visceral awareness is, the more nuanced and intentional our emotional and behavioral responses are. Somatic exploration may include explorative movement ranging from expressive dance, devotional yoga, or more subtle exploration of the way we walk, our posture, and our gestures, mindfulness, symbolism, sound, touch, mirroring, and breath.

what people are saying

“Working with Laura has been instrumental in my personal development, self-discovery, and healing. I didn’t quite know what to expect when I started Somatic Therapy, but I can now easily say that I’ve experienced more mental, emotional, and physical shifts in the 4 months working Laura than in the 4 years I spent in traditional talk therapy. Laura is professional, respectful, warm, and truly cares about the wellbeing of her clients. She has created a safe and supportive container for me to explore myself and consistently reminds me that there is no “right way” to be. Each session with Laura is profound; I’ve learned how to observe myself in ways I didn’t understand prior, start practicing safe and effective communication, and understand and express my needs more authentically. I’m so grateful for Laura and couldn’t recommend her enough!”

“Laura offers knowledge, tools and  personal support to use our minds to connect with our bodies. Life enjoyment increases, while anxiety decreases. Laura has made a difference in my wellness journey!”
